In the late 1980s Anna took a course in Ceramics to complete a Bachelor of Education at Deakin University. This foray encouraged her to further studies and in 1991/1992 she studied at Outer Eastern College of TAFE where she attained a Diploma of Art and Design majoring in Ceramics.
Shortly after this, she had the opportunity to oversee the Pottery Classes run by Mitcham Arts Society. This involved organising workshops and classes for children, adults and Nadrasca members. ‘My first foray into clay occurred in 1971 when, as a young mother, I needed a distraction from child rearing. The medium ignited fascination. I have worked on the wheel but now tend to make hand built forms and sculptures. I draw my inspiration from my love of nature and gardening. The tactile medium of clay presents infinite possibilities, also challenges that allow no time for boredom. Time slips by, dreaming, planning, making and problem-solving. What a thrill it is when everything works. I know I will never run out of ideas, only time.’ Anna’s work includes hand built forms and sculptures, often featuring plants or frogs and other creatures. She uses dry glazes or a mixture of coloured stains with clear glazes to finish the pieces. |
