Originally completing a Bachelor of Arts at Victoria College in Prahran in ceramics and foundry, Donna went on to producing public bas relief sculptures at Emerald Lake in Victoria. Following on from this she spent the following 20 years in graphic design, printing and related multi media. Whilst in a creative field, the lure of three dimensional design was persistent. Donna enrolled in the Box Hill Community Art Centre, picked up from her past educational training and has never looked back.
‘My sculptural forms were created from surviving the Black Saturday bushfires in Marysville. They are gentle and unfolding, tactile and fluid, almost birdlike with bellies. My ceramics has always been sculptural, focussing more on form than colour. The Tee Pee technique follows the curves of these organic shapes, further enhancing them with colour. I have followed these forms through into water features and fountains as well as birdbaths. Platters are a new development, tactile and easy to use. Ceramics and in particular hand building have always drawn a deep contentment from me. The medium of ceramics has always stimulated my imagination through its sheer potential of possibilities. I really can’t wait to see what I do next!’ Donna’s work includes a range of ceramics, from raw Tee Pee fired earthenware and sturdy stoneware to porcelain with chun glazes for platters. All pieces can be traced to the same curvaceous sculptural shapes. Beyond Stonehouse, Donna also exhibits and sells her work at the Kuranga Nursery and Bulleen Art and Garden Centre. |
