Rose is predominantly a self taught artist who lives in the Yarra Valley. Her love of art is shown in the diversity of her ever evolving styles and choice of mediums.
A school teacher by profession, her artistic journey began in earnest in 2007 after attending a drawing class at Wyreena Community Centre. What started out as a bit of fun soon turned into a passion and thirst for anything "art". Not having gone through the traditional fine arts education pathways, Rose was keen to enhance her passion for art by searching out art classes, workshops, reading and online courses. Joining Ringwood Art Society in 2009 gave her invaluable opportunities to work with and learn from fellow like minded artists. "My love of art is taking me on an interesting journey. There's no doubt I'm an art lover in both mind and practise. From a humble start in charcoal to acrylic, oil, watercolour, pastel, Lino cut, scratchboard and more recently soapstone sculpture, I'm entranced by the variety of mediums out there. Every time I try a new medium I get caught up in its special characteristics. Each medium has a unique language that I'm drawn to learn and express. Oil is a faithful friend I keep returning to but new mediums lure me away on occasion. Soapstone sculpture is my new found friend! " I hope my artwork inspires you and creates a spark in your own imagination." Joining the team at Stonehouse Gallery as an Associate in 2019 has given Rose further opportunities to work with a variety of talented artists and makers. This has wetted her appetite even further to try new things as shown by her recent venture into the world of soapstone sculpture. |
