Sue’s University studies included courses in painting, pottery, printmaking and textile arts. She has attended intensive printmaking courses with renowned printmakers Basil Hall, Seraphina Martin and Debra Luccio and includes local workshops and demonstrations in her artistic development. NGV Society membership allows frequent access to Melbourne’s International and Victorian galleries.
Sue’s paintings most often include landscapes, beach scenes, historical reflections of specific places such as the exploration for gold in Warrandyte and floral compositions. She also creates limited editions of lino cut prints and etchings using various techniques. ‘Extensive travels across this wonderful continent of Australia, Asia and Europe have fed my desire to depict the form, tone and texture of my observations and experiences. I have been particularly fortunate to spend time in desert regions of WA, working with the indigenous artists in Wiluna, Warakurna and Blackstone, taking inspiration from Country. My love of gardening is reflected in some of my work but I particularly enjoy sketching and painting Warrandyte views of the river and local tracks.’ Sue’s landscapes are usually painted in acrylics, sometimes including mixed media. She paints on canvas, presenting both miniatures and large works. When printmaking, Sue creates limited editions using various etching techniques and linocuts. |
